Inside The Hive

Inside The Hive was created for the exhibition Collective Action, which featured at Day & Night Projects in Atlanta, Georgia, in April 2022. 

Chris VanBrackle made sound recordings inside the beehives at South River Art Studios, which David Hill and Allen Peterson combined with digital and acoustic instruments to create one hour of soundscape.  David used modular synth patches and audio samples to generate variations of texture, harmony, and tone.

The soundscape consists of ten tracks, which take different approaches to themes of order and disorder, pattern rules and generation, and the tension between collective and individual.  Organic and synthetic sounds create variations in rhythm and tone, repetition and improvisation, control and variation.
